Delivery time for our rings that need a size adjustment is normally 3-4 weeks. However, in these special holiday times, our goldsmith's are working extra hours and this time has been reduced. Your order must be placed by Monday December 14th for us to guarantee delivery by December 24th. 

Are you gifting a ring, but unsure of the ring size? 🎄

If you don't need a ring size adjustment, or wish to wait with this till after you've gifted the ring to be 100% the resizing will be accurate, your order must be placed by Wednesday December 21st for domestic orders, and Monday December 19th for international orders. Oslo orders can be placed and picked up in our 

The best option if you're on the lookout for a ring is therefore to buy the ring in its "ready to ship" size, and have it size-adjusted after the holidays. This is ideal if you're unsure about the ring size, or if you're in a hurry. It should also be noted that the majority of our "ready-to-ship" pieces are available in EU size 54. This is the most common ring size, and typically fits most girls.

As you’re picking out the perfect ring, you have a lot to consider. But there’s one very important detail that many people overlook when picking out a ring: their setting profile. Although there are lots of different ring settings to choose from, generally, they come in two profiles. Either a high set profile or a low set profile. There are pros and cons to each setting profile, and it’s important to carefully evaluate which you prefer.

First of all, let's clarify: what is a ring setting?

Whether a ring is high set or low set depends on 

. If you look at a ring from the side and its center gemstone is elevated high off the band, it’s a high set ring. If its center stone is fairly close to the band, it’s low set.

Many people love high set rings because they have more wow factor. When your gemstones are raised up off of your band, they’re more eye-catching. The ring tends to look more elegant and stylish when viewed from the side. Gemstones can also look even more brilliant in high settings, since they can

While high ring settings are glamorous and versatile, they also come with some potential drawbacks. High settings are 

, because it can more easily get scratched, loosened, or the prongs can get damaged. If you’ve ever smacked your hand against a kitchen cabinet or got your ring ring caught on something as you walk by it, you’ll understand what we mean. Rings with a high setting can also damage other things if you’re not careful, like furniture, hair and sheets.

. Some women don’t mind this as much, but others might find it annoying. Then, you’ll generally need to take high set rings off when you do certain common tasks, like cleaning or gardening, in order to avoid damaging your ring and/or to use your hands more comfortably. How you feel about needing to take off your ring is very personal. But it’s worth pointing out that people with more active lifestyles may find this more irritating than others, since they’ll need to take off their ring more frequently.

A gemstone or diamond ring with a low profile setting means that the stone is lower, flush with the metal. If you turn the ring to the side, you’ll notice the featured gemstone sits down low, and when wearing it, it is nestled snugly against your finger. Centre stones are better protected in a low setting.

The main advantage of low set rings is how 

 they are. Low profile settings are less likely to get damaged from an accidental bump or scrape, and less likely to get snagged on your clothing. Generally, they’re just 

more durable and wearable in the long run

. If you have an active lifestyle, or you work in a career that requires extensive use of your hands, low profile rings might be your preferred choice.

Though low set rings are very comfortable and wearable, they do come with cons. One con of low set rings is that they have 

 when compared to high set rings. Gemstones may look less sparkly and eye-catching when they are close to your band. Additionally, low set rings 

 on their upper shank, which means you would be limited to curved stacking bands if you want a flush fitting ring stack. Our versatile

Here’s how I proposed to Jenny and the myths about engagement rings I wish I’d known back then.

We’re Jenny & Danuka, we became a couple in 2013 and started Nangi together in 2017.

With one foot in Sri Lanka, I’ve always known about the abundance of 

. But coming from Norway, I was (like most Scandinavian guys) never really interested in jewelry.

So, when I started thinking about proposing to Jenny, I’d hardly ever looked at buying jewelry before.

Naturally, in my search for the perfect engagement ring to Jenny, I was victim to all the  myths about engagement rings.

It’s time I bust the three most common myths for all of you who’re 

No, it doesn't have to be a diamond. This teal sapphire set in yellow gold is just as great as an engagement ring.

I thought I had to get Jenny a diamond, it was just wired into my brain by default. I didn’t even think to consider any other gemstone options for the engagement ring.

That’s how successfully this myth has been planted in us for the past century.

But the fact is that diamonds weren’t even popular in engagement rings at the beginning of the 20th century; only 10 percent of engagement rings featured diamonds.

That all changed when a company called De Beers came along. They owned most diamond mines in the world and with a wildly effective ad campaign after the Depression, they managed to link diamonds with proposals and engagement rings almost overnight – and so their sales skyrocketed.

Are Diamonds Really a Girl’s Best Friend?

I did end up getting her a diamond. But if I had known about the much more sustainable and conflict-free option of lab-grown diamonds back then, that’s definitely what I would’ve opted for. Knowing how much Jenny loves sapphires, I probably also could've gone for a 

, but I honestly didn't think it was an option.

Myth 2: You Should Spend Three Months’ Salary on the Ring

There’s a common belief that an engagement ring must be worth at least three months’ salary. Well, I think that’s bonkers. You shouldn’t have to go into debts to declare your love and commitment to your partner.

De Beers is again the culprit here, spreading the “three-months rule” in their ads. It has apparently stuck as a big myth, since so many people go out of their ways to buy a pricey ring.

When I proposed to Jenny, I wanted to make it extra special, so I contacted a jeweler in Denmark that I knew she liked. Together with the jeweler we created a ring with a cushion brilliant cut diamond set in white gold.

But finding a unique ring, with the right cut, the right gem and the right material for your partner, doesn’t mean it has to be custom made. There are plenty of possibilities out there that are more reasonably priced.

You should however place value on high quality in both the gemstone and material, because the ring is a symbol of everlasting love and should also last a lifetime (it's also more sustainable), but there’s no need to get broke in the process. A relationship won’t survive on love and jewelry alone, you need to be a little pragmatic too.

The actual day of the proposal, I remember feeling partly nervous and partly excited, because I felt it needed to be just perfect.

After a lovely dinner and concert with one of our favorite artists, I asked Jenny to join me for a walk through the park where we decided that we were offically boyfriend-girlfriend four years back. It was February, so it was pretty dark and cold, but it was beautiful. There had just been a snowfall, so everything around us lit up and sparkled.

I had prepared a small speech leading up to the big question, and eventually went down on one knee to offer her the engagement ring. I felt like the luckiest man alive when she said yes <3

But I wouldn’t have hesitated to say yes to her either if she’d been the one on her knee. Times are changing and it doesn’t have to the man who proposes to the woman anymore. There's no reason why it can't be the other way around.

A proposal is perfect when it feels right and special for the two of you, and that’s really the only thing that matters.

Nei, det må ikke være en diamantring. Denne blågrønne safiren, satt i gult gull, fungerer helt utmerket som forlovelsesring. 

Jeg trodde jeg måtte gi Jenny en diamant, det lå bare i meg som default. Jeg tenkte overhodet ikke på at også andre edelstener kunne brukes til forlovelsesringen. 

Så vellykket er denne myten som har blitt solgt oss det siste århundret. 

Men fakta er at diamanter ikke engang var særlig populære som forlovelsesringer på starten av 1900-tallet; bare 10 prosent av forlovelsesringer hadde diamanter i seg den gang.

Det endret seg over natten da selskapet De Beers kom på banen. Selskapet eide de fleste diamantgruvene i verden og med en ekstremt vellykket reklamekampanje like etter den store depresjonen, klarte de å knytte diamanter til frierier og forlovelsesringer på et blunk - og dermed skjøt salget av diamantene deres i været. 

Er diamanter virkelig alle jenters bestevenn?

En virkelig vakker potensiell forlovelsesring.

Jeg endte til slutt opp med å gi henne en diamantring. Men hadde jeg visst om det mer bærekraftige og konfliktfrie alternativet som lab-diamanter er, hadde jeg absolutt gått for en lab-diamant i stedet. Jeg vet også hvor mye Jenny elsker safirer, så jeg kunne nok også ha gått for en 

, men jeg trodde ærlig talt ikke at det var en mulighet. 

Nangi er det første og eneste smykkemerket i Norge som tilbyr lab-diamanter.

Myte 2: Bruk tre måneders lønn på ringen 

Det er en ganske vanlig oppfatning at forlovelsesringer må være verdt minst tre måneders lønn. Men det synes jeg er helt crazy! Du skal ikke måtte bli gjeldsslave bare fordi du ønsker å vise din hengivenhet og kjærlighet til partneren din. 

De Beers er igjen skyldig i dette, da de spredte denne "tre-månedersregelen" i reklameannonsene sine. Det henger tydeligvis igjen som en stor myte da det er mange som gjør alt de kan for å kjøpe en altfor dyr ring.

Da jeg fridde til Jenny ville jeg gjøre det ekstra spesielt, så jeg kontaktet en gullsmed i Danmark som jeg visste hun likte. Sammen med gullsmeden lagde vi en ring med en briljantslipt diamant i hvitt gull. 

Men det å finne en unik ring, med rett slip og form, den riktige stenen og de rette materialene for din partner, betyr ikke nødevendigvis at ringen må være custom-designet. Det finnes mange muligheter der ute til rimelige priser. 

Du burde allikevel gå for høy kvalitet både med tanke på edelsten og materiale, ettersom ringen tross alt er et symbol på evigvarende kjærlighet og bør også kunne vare et helt liv (det er også mer bærekraftig), men ingen grunn til å bli blakk for det. Et forhold kan ikke overleve på kjærlighet og smykker alene, man må være litt pragmatisk også. 

På dagen for frieriet husker jeg at jeg følte meg delvis nervøs og delvis spent fordi jeg tenkte at det hele måtte bli perfekt. 

Etter en bedre middag og en konsert med en av våre favorittartister, spurte jeg Jenny om å gå en tur med meg i parken der vi hadde bestemt oss for å bli kjærester fire år tidligere. Det var februar, så ganske kaldt og mørkt, men det var pent. Det hadde nettopp snødd, så alt rundt oss lyste opp og glitret av snøen.

Men jeg hadde ikke tvilt et sekund på å si ja til henne også, hvis det hadde vært hun som gikk ned på kne for å fri. Det er andre tider nå og det trenger ikke lenger være mannen som frir til kvinnen lenger. Det er ingen grunn for at det ikke kan være motsatt. 

Et frieri er perfekt når det føles riktig og unikt for dere to, og det er virkelig det eneste som betyr noe.

Most people agree that the engagement ring belongs on the ring finger, but on which hand? Read on if you’ve been wondering ;)

The question of where you should put your engagement ring, on the right or the left hand, is such a common question you wouldn’t even believe it. Especially here in Scandinavia.

Now, the Swedes have got it all figured out, they do the same as the rest of the world, and the Danes have partly understood it too, but Norwegians seem to be the odd one out.

Here in Norway, we like to go our own way, and that’s where the confusion of where to place the engagement ring started.

You see, almost anywhere else in the world, the engagement ring belongs on the left hand. But in Norway it’s common to wear the engagement ring on the right hand.

Many ascribe the more global custom of wearing the engagement ring on the left hand to an old myth. Apparently, there's a special blood vein called “the vein of love” or “vena amoris" in Latin, which runs from the ring finger on the left hand directly to the heart.

Placing the engagement ring on the ring finger on the left hand is therefore meant to symbolize and solidify the connection to the heart.

In Norway, the general custom is to wear the engagement ring on the right hand. Some say it’s because it’s the same hand we usually greet people with, therefore making it easier for people to spot if you’re taken or not.

Others believe it has to do with religion and referring to people in the Bible wearing rings on the right hand. People also claim it has to do with the right hand being the hand of power and authority.

It’s also worth noting that if you’re right-handed, your right fingers will be slightly larger than those of your left hand, simply because they are more active and need to be stronger.

We don’t really know exactly why the Norwegian custom differs from the rest of the world. But frankly, it doesn’t matter.

Ring customs change over time with cultures and trends. The Romans even had two engagement rings, one in iron that could be worn at home when doing housework and one in gold to be worn outside the house so they could show off. Another interesting custom is from a few centuries ago in England, where it was normal to wear your wedding ring on the thumb!

Today, there’s no doubt that your engagement ring belongs on the ring finger, but on which hand you choose to wear it is basically up to you.

Where does it feel more comfortable to you? That’s what matters.

It’s generally the same story with the wedding band as with the engagement ring. The rest of the world prefers to place the wedding ring on the left hand, whereas Norway prefers the right hand. And again, it’s entirely up to you what you choose.

In addition to the confusion of which hand to place the engagement ring, there exists a myriad of other myths about it too. Like what gem it should have and how much it should cost. At Nangi, we believe you don’t have to follow all these unwritten rules. You can make your own rules ;)

I Norge er det vanlig å ha forlovelsesringen på høyre hånd. Noen mener det er fordi det er den samme hånden vi hilser med, og at det derfor er enklere for folk å få vite om du er opptatt eller ikke.

Andre tror at det har med religion å gjøre og at mange folk i Bibelen bærer ringer på høyre hånd. Det sies også at høyre hånd er forbundet med makt og autoritet.

Det er også verdt å nevne at hvis du er høyrehrendt så vil fingrene dine være litt større på høyre hånd enn på venstre, simpelthen fordi de er mer aktive og er derfor sterkere.

Vi vet ikke egentlig hvorfor norske vaner er så forskjellig fra resten av verden, men det gjør ikke så mye heller. 

Normer for hvordan bære forlovelsesringen endrer seg i takt med kulturer og tider. Romerne hadde til og med to forlovelsesringer, én i jern som kunne bli brukt hjemme under husarbeidet, og én i gull som de kunne vise frem utenfor hjemmet. Enda en interessant skikk kommer fra England for noen århundrer siden, da var det normalt å ha gifteringen på tommelen! 

I dag er det nok ingen tvil om at forlovelsesringen hører til på ringfingere, men hvilken hånd du velger å gå med den på er egentlig helt opp til deg. 

Hvor føles den mest komfortabel for deg? Det er det viktigste. 

Det er samme historie med gifteringen som med forlovelsesringen. Resten av verden foretrekker å ha gifteringen på venstre hånd, mens vi i Norge vil ha den på høyre hånd. Igjen er det helt opp til deg hva du velger.

I tillegg til forvirringen om hvilken hånd du skal ha forlovelsesringen på, finnes det en hel del andre myter omkring denne ringen.
