Sindre and Gro-Elise grew up in the same neighborhood on Sotra, just outside Bergen. They had known of each other from an early age, Sindre as the older brother of one of Gro-Elise’s childhood friends. But it wasn’t until a summer holiday with his family that something shifted.

– After that trip, it was the two of us. And it has been ever since.

The year was 2012. They were young, in love, and unaware that they had just begun a journey that would last more than a decade. They grew up together, stepped into adulthood side by side, and have been each other’s first and only great love.

– Being engaged now, thirteen years later, feels almost like falling in love all over again. It’s truly magical.

When Love Leads, Not the Timing of an Engagement

Engagement had always been part of their conversations. Not as pressure, but as a shared dream. Still, for a long time, it felt easy to believe that everything else in life had to align perfectly first.

– When we were younger, it felt like we had to wait for “the right time.” But eventually we realized that the perfect time doesn’t really exist.

Over the years, Gro-Elise had dropped small hints about ring preferences, often different each time. It did not make the decision any easier. Gradually, the idea of doing things differently began to feel right: choosing the ring together while leaving the proposal itself as Sindre’s moment.

– We do most things in life together. It only felt natural that this would be the same.

The day Sindre received the message that the ring was ready for pickup, he could barely bring himself to look at it.

– He was almost overwhelmed by how beautiful it was, and realized immediately that he couldn’t wait.

That same evening, he proposed at home in an intimate setting. Just the two of them, and a moment filled with nerves, tears, and overwhelming love.

– Even though we both knew the answer would be yes, we were completely overwhelmed. It was so powerful and emotional. A feeling we will carry with us forever.
