“It’s My Oskar Ring”

Nangi drop

After three strenuous days in labor, Gjertrud gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Oskar. The next day, husband Tore surprised her with a gorgeous push present, a bicolored green and champagne tourmaline ring, to show how proud he was. A push present (also called a push gift) is a present a partner or family gives to the mother to mark the occasion of her giving birth to their child.

The water broke on their due date and they thought it would happen quickly. But no. It would take another 18 hours of contractions before Gjertrud and Tore even went to the hospital.

- I was already very exhausted when we arrived at the hospital, but I had only dilated 2-3 cm, Gjertrud said.

Another day would pass before she reached the magic 10 cm and could start pushing.

- That afternoon, I remember looking out the window right after I got the epidural. It was such a pretty day with colorful autumn leaves on the trees, and it was slowly getting darker. We were filled with a still and expectant feeling; soon we would meet our son for the first time!

After several painful hours of active labor, baby boy Oskar came out to greet the world, but the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice.

- He was all blue, and it was quite dramatic, but we felt safe the doctors would help him, said Gjertrud.

Oskar quickly regained his natural color and strength, and Tore and Gjertrud were overjoyed to hold him. After the long birth, the new family of three could finally rest and sleep.

On the breakfast table the next morning, between the orange juice and bread, was a Nangi box. Tore had wanted to do something special for his wife, which he adores.

As a push present, Tore picked out a dazzling 0,90 carat multicolored green and champagne tourmaline for Gjertrud. He specifically chose it because tourmaline is the birthstone for October, the month Oskar was born.

- It was so thoughtful, I never knew he planned a push present, said Gjertrud. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of that day and the beautiful moment when we saw Oskar for the first time. It’s pretty wild. There’s nothing really that can compare.

Today, Oskar is a happy baby. According to his parents, he is a calm little boy, always smiling and playing it cool.

- Because it symbolizes the birth of our wonderful child, this ring is a very special gift for me, said Gjertrud. It’s my Oskar ring.
