A royal glow for a radiant month. August is a month of light, warmth, and growth — and its birthstones reflect that perfectly. Among them, peridot stands out as a radiant symbol of transformation, abundance, and inner strength. At Nangi we hold a special love for this vivid green gem. Its unmistakable glow and meaningful symbolism make it one of the most treasured stones we work with.

Unlike many gems, peridot only appears in shades of green—ranging from soft yellow-green to intense olive. This singularity makes it instantly recognizable. Formed deep in the Earth’s mantle and sometimes found in meteorites, peridot carries a celestial mystery that few stones can match.
Its cosmic origin and vibrant hue have fascinated civilizations for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians mined peridot on the island of Zabargad in the Red Sea and called it the "gem of the sun." Cleopatra was rumored to favor peridot over emeralds, adorning herself with its golden-green shimmer. In Hawaiian mythology, peridot symbolizes the tears of Pele, the goddess of volcanoes.
Today, peridot continues to enchant with its blend of historic legacy and modern appeal. It’s a gemstone of good fortune, peace, protection, and renewal—ideal for anyone stepping into a new season of life.
Peridot’s history sparkles with royal intrigue. While Cleopatra is said to have favored the gem—mistaking it for emerald—its golden-green glow has also graced historic treasures like the Shrine of the Three Holy Kings in Cologne Cathedral, where large peridots were once believed to be emeralds.
Though it never reached the same prominence as ruby or sapphire in European courts, peridot was admired in 19th-century royal collections and flourished in Art Nouveau jewelry.
In today’s world, peridot is enjoying a quiet renaissance. Designers and collectors are rediscovering its brilliance, drawn to its ethical sourcing, vivid color, and rich symbolism. At Nangi, we celebrate peridot as the perfect fusion of history, sustainability, and modern elegance.

Spinel is August’s second birthstone — a gem that dazzles in shades of deep red, violet, cobalt blue, and grey. Long mistaken for ruby, spinel has a rich legacy of its own. It’s known for its exceptional brilliance, clarity, and durability (8 on the Mohs scale).
Spinel symbolizes vitality, inspiration, and clarity of thought. Though our focus at Nangi is primarily on peridot, we admire spinel’s versatility and bold character.
