METAL GUIDE – Choose the Right Metal for You

Nangi drop

Welcome to Nangi's Metal Guide. Here, you'll get an overview of the fine metals we offer – along with insight into their unique properties, advantages, and care recommendations. This guide is made for those selecting a metal for an engagement ring, wedding band, or personal piece of jewelry. Whether you're unsure about the difference between 14K and 18K gold, or curious why platinum is so sought after – you'll find the answers here.

What is Solid Gold?

At Nangi, we only use solid gold – real, pure gold that is blended with other metals for added strength and durability. This is different from "gold filled" or "gold plated," which only have a thin outer layer of gold. Solid gold lasts a lifetime, can be polished and resized, and gains character as it ages. It's an investment in quality – and a key part of our philosophy of sustainable luxury.

All of our gold rings – whether 14K or 18K – are made from solid gold.

14K GOLD – Strong, Elegant & Versatile

14-karat gold contains 58.3% pure gold and 41.7% other metals like silver, copper, and zinc. This makes it a more durable choice than 18K gold. It has a lighter, more neutral yellow tone and is ideal for those who want a ring they can wear every day without worrying about scratches or wear.

At Nangi, we use 14K solid gold in many of our rings and jewelry, because it perfectly balances beauty and practicality. It's made to keep up with an active lifestyle, and the soft golden hue complements both diamonds and colored gemstones beautifully. Its neutral tone is especially flattering on Nordic and fair skin tones – enhancing natural warmth without overpowering it.

18K GOLD – Deeper Color, Refined Expression

18-karat gold contains 75% pure gold and 25% alloy metals like copper and silver. This high gold content gives the metal a richer, warmer glow – a classic golden tone often associated with heritage and exclusivity.

It has a softer character, making it ideal for rings with rounded shapes and smooth surfaces. Many choose 18K gold for its visual richness and luxurious feel – adding instant warmth and presence to any design.

18K gold is especially flattering on medium to darker skin tones or anyone who wants their ring to stand out with a bold, warm glow. It's also a great option for sensitive skin, as it contains fewer alloys and is less likely to cause allergic reactions.

WHITE GOLD – Sleek, Silvery Elegance

White gold is a modern and sophisticated alternative for those who want a silver-toned ring with the luxury and weight of gold. It’s created by blending pure gold with white-toned metals like palladium and silver, resulting in a cool, elegant hue. For added shine, white gold is coated in rhodium – a rare metal from the platinum family.

Rhodium not only enhances brilliance but also offers extra protection from scratches and tarnish. Over time, this coating naturally wears down – especially with daily wear – but the ring beneath is always solid white gold. We offer a complimentary annual Jewelry Maintenance Service – including cleaning, polishing, and a full inspection of your piece. If you'd like a fresh rhodium coating, we’re happy to help with jeweler coordination. Any rhodium-related cost will be shared with you beforehand, so you can make informed decisions.

Our white gold has a clean, bright tone that flatters all skin tones and enhances both diamonds and colored gemstones with crisp contrast. It's also easy to pair with other jewelry in silver or platinum – making it a timeless and versatile choice.

ROSE GOLD – Warm, Romantic & Unique

Rose gold is made by blending gold with copper and a hint of silver. It’s the copper that creates its signature pink hue – a tone that feels vintage, romantic, and modern all at once. Our rose gold is made from 75% pure gold, 20% copper, and 5% silver.

The warm glow flatters both light and dark skin tones – offering a soft, rosy radiance against fair skin and a rich, glowing contrast on deeper complexions. It’s perfect for those who want something beyond classic yellow or white gold – a choice that feels personal and timeless.

Because rose gold isn't coated, any scratches or signs of wear are barely noticeable – the color runs throughout the metal. Over time, rose gold develops a deeper, warmer patina, giving your piece unique character and soulful depth. A romantic yet resilient choice – one that ages beautifully.

950 PLATINUM – Enduring Beauty in Natural White

Platinum is one of the rarest and most durable metals in the world. 950 platinum means the ring contains 95% pure platinum and 5% other platinum-family metals. It has a natural white sheen that never fades – and unlike white gold, it doesn’t require rhodium plating or regular upkeep.

Platinum has a higher density than gold, giving it a solid, weighty feel – something many associate with substance and quality. It’s extremely wear-resistant: even when scratched, the material is simply displaced rather than lost. This ensures that your gemstone is securely held in place and your ring retains its structure for life.

If you're choosing between white gold and platinum, it often comes down to maintenance and feel. White gold is lighter and requires periodic rhodium treatments, while platinum is naturally white and requires no additional coating. It feels more robust and exclusive – both in weight and appearance.

Platinum is perfect for those who want a metal that lasts a lifetime and matures with grace.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT METAL

Think about what suits your lifestyle, aesthetic, and skin tone. Want something lightweight and durable? Choose 14K gold. Prefer deeper color and softer texture? Try 18K gold. Want low maintenance and lasting strength? Platinum is ideal. Looking for romantic warmth? Rose gold offers a unique glow. And if you love clean, silver-toned elegance, white gold is a timeless, adaptable choice.
