Sundrop Tourmaline is a warm glint of honey, earth and light — like the last drop of sun before dusk. The pear-cut brown tourmaline shimmers with notes of golden honey and dusty rose, changing gently as the light moves.

Crafted for subtle radiance, the 0,53 ct natural gemstone is unheated, brilliantly cut, and perfectly poised in a high prong setting that lets light pass through freely, catching every nuance within the stone.

The band, handcrafted in pure 14K yellow gold, is slender and half-rounded — a minimal design that lets the gemstone take center stage. Its warm tone enhances the natural fire within the tourmaline, without overpowering it.

This is a ring for the grounded dreamer — one who finds beauty in quiet details. Whether chosen as a solid gold tourmaline ring, a unique coloured gemstone engagement ring, or a personal statement, Sundrop Tourmaline is both timeless and rare.

Tourmaline

The tourmaline is highly sought after because it combines good hardness (7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale) with excellent durability. It has one of the widest color ranges of any gem. Tourmaline’s colors have many different causes. It’s generally agreed that traces of iron, and possibly titanium, induce green and blue colors. Manganese produces reds and pinks, and possibly yellows. Some pink and yellow tourmalines might owe their hues to color centers caused by radiation, which can be natural or laboratory-induced.

The name tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese term “Turmali,” which was the name given to all colored crystals on the island of Sri Lanka back in the days. This all inclusive name indicates the inability of ancient gem dealers to differentiate tourmaline from other stones. In fact, at one time in history, pink and red tourmaline were thought to be rubies. Pink tourmaline tends to be pinker in color than ruby. However, their similarities in appearance are so strong that the stones in the Russian crown jewels believed to be rubies for centuries, are now thought to be tourmalines. Tourmaline was in fact also confused with emerald for 300 years! The stone was first discovered by Dutch traders off the West Coast of Italy in the late 1600's or early 1700's.

Tourmaline is the birthstone of October, and is believed to reflect kindness, tolerance and femininity. Tourmalines are also believed to be useful in relaxing the body and the mind, and to help in the treatment of many different diseases such as anxiety, blood poisoning, arthritis, and heart disease.

Drop Dead Gorgeous

Our Drop Dead Gorgeous Collection is just that - DROP dead gorgeous! It features our signature pear cut gemstone, and this is in fact a very hard cut to come across. Due to their elongated shape, pear-shaped gems make the wearer's fingers appear longer and slimmer.

Resembling a teardrop, the pear cut is rounded in one end and has a tapered point in the other end. The pear cut has one of the highest number of facets of any gemstone cuts. With 71 facets, the pear cut stunningly reflects light and color. It’s said that the pear cut symbolizes tears of joy, and that the shape fits perfectly to a woman who feels confident, empowered and dares to walk to the beat of her own drum.
