When we visited the orphanage we support in Sri Lanka this summer, one thing quickly became clear: the beds the girls were sleeping on were no longer in good condition. Earlier this year, we had already provided new bed sheets for all the girls, but seeing the state of the beds and mattresses in person showed us that this was only a partial solution. Proper rest matters, and the existing beds were simply too worn to offer the comfort and support they should. After returning home, we decided to take the next step.

Together with our accounting firm Exacta in Kongsberg, Norway, and their Sri Lankan branch Pro Account Lanka Ltd, we funded and arranged the purchase of new beds and mattresses for every girl at the orphanage.
This was very much a joint effort. Having partners on the ground in Sri Lanka made it possible to move quickly and ensure everything was handled properly, from sourcing to delivery.
The result is a clear and tangible improvement: sturdy bed frames, supportive mattresses, and a sleeping environment that is cleaner, more comfortable, and better suited to everyday life.

The before-and-after photos show the difference clearly.

Before, the beds and mattresses were heavily worn and uneven from years of use. After, each girl now has a proper bed and mattress that will last and provide better support.
While it’s a simple change, it makes a real difference to daily routines — especially for children, where good rest plays such an important role in wellbeing and development.
At Nangi, responsibility extends beyond the materials we use and the jewelry we make. Our connection to Sri Lanka is long-standing, and supporting the communities connected to our work is something we see as part of that relationship.
Projects like this are not about grand gestures, but about responding when a need is clear and doing what we can, together with people we trust. We’re grateful to have been able to do this in collaboration with Exacta and Pro Account Lanka Ltd, and for their shared commitment to making it happen.

We’re thankful to everyone involved who helped turn this from an observation into action. Knowing that the girls now have better conditions for rest is meaningful to us, and it’s something we’ll carry with us as we continue our work — both in Norway and in Sri Lanka.
Sometimes, the most important changes are the practical ones.
